Laboratories and expertise
The MTC comprises a laboratory fitted with two Model
Wizard work stations allowing to create mathematical
models of any areas of navigation in the world ocean as
well as to edit ships’ mathematical models. Recent projects
involved development of Vysotsk and Primorsk approaches
and harbour models to carry out researches on simulation
of maneuvering and mooring of approximately 47 000 and
80 000 dwt tankers en route from the Lotsmanskiy buoy
to the berths of oil terminal in Vysotsk, as well as to
work out the recommendations regarding the safety of navigation
within port limits and mooring optimization under various
weather and ice conditions for large-tonnage ships.
Capacities of the radar simulator allow modeling any practical situations and it has been used in certain accident investigations to prepare expertise report.

Laboratory for Psychophysiological Testing
The Makarov Training Centre has launched an experimental laboratory for psychophysiological testing of sea and coastal specialists with the state-of-art computer environment and test methods.
The laboratory is intended for the improvement of individual psychophysiological characteristics of a specialists and is supported by a complex of activities on development, introduction and further implementation of the system making the psychophysiological component of a sea pilot and VTS operator practical training in the MTC.
Psychophysiological tests are aimed at individual adaptation of a specialist training allowing for personal operational, psychological and intellectual features.
The psychological examinations involve computer psychological tests enabling to determine the level of professional skills development of the specialists (crewmembers, pilots, VTS operators) influencing the quality and effectiveness of working tasks.
The psychophysiological training of specialists is to improve the safety of navigation by means of the prevention of mistakes committed due to his functional state deterioration and efficiency reduction.
The means of psychophysiological ensure improvement of the safety of navigation due to:
-
elimination of the various professional skills deficiencies;
-
development of psychophysiological preparedness for emergency actions;
-
training in optimal interaction techniques accounting for the psychological compatibility criteria;
-
development of skills in preservation and recovery of professional working capability;
-
familiarization with the sources and prevention of erroneous actions in the framework of professional activity.
