Professional Testing and Evaluation of Seafarers
The Makarov Training Centre offers the tests for marine
specialists in accordance with many directions of their
professional activity. Such tests can be arranged both
on individual requests from seamen themselves and on
requests from shipping and crewing companies. The teaching
and practical experience of instructors, wide range of
equipment and software ensure the unbiased character
and reliable guality of the competency assessment.
To carry out the test classrooms with network computer equipment, that allows, in case of necessity, to test groups of candidates at once are used.
The "Delta-Test" software installed in classrooms provides objective and independent knowledge assessment of seafarers in accordance with STCW requirements.
The concept of the "Delta-Test" software was approved by the Russian Federation Ministry of Transport for being used as an integral part of national standard of knowledge assessment at training centres and maritime colleges and universities as well as at Marine qualification commissions of Port Administrations of Russia.
The "Delta-Test" software is used for testing all categories of senior officers and ratings, pilots, operators and other marine personnel.
Since 2005 the Makarov Training Centre has been implementing distance knowledge assessment. While passing such a test a person can assess his/her competency or to confirm it by the Academy using Internet technologies in one of the local centres authorized by the Academy and get an appropriate document without leaving for Saint - Petersburg.
For persons getting ready for certificates revalidation and upgraiting at Port Administrations the Makarov Training Centre offers a possibility of training with the use of the "Delta-Test" in our Centre and at the faculties of the academy.
The Makarov Training Centre is also approved officially by MARLINS company as a centre for Maritime English language testing. The certificates issued by our Centre on the results of testing, are recognized by MCA (UK) and International Shipping Federation (ISF).
Additionally we test senior deck and engineer officers and ratings in English with the use of our own unique methods.
Such well-known companies as UNICOM, LAP A, POLAR CREWING,
WEMA, LAUDON, ROSNEFT, etc use our services in testing
seamen. 
In 2005 a special laboratory for psycho-physiological testing of pilots, VTS operators and ship's crewmembers was founded at the Training Centre. Psycho-physiological testing provides unbiased assessment of different parameters of memory, attention, thinking, space perception, speed and precision of sensor -motor reactions when performing professional tasks in routine and emergency situations. Modern telemetric equipment for studying physiological processes, original software and many-year experience of specialists are amalgamated to effect psycho-physiological testing and training. On requests from companies and organizations the Makarov Training Centre can develop syllabuses and methods for psychophysiological testing of different categories of marine personnel and specialists of associated industries.
The automatic competency assessment system (ACAS) installed at the "Virtual ship" simulator gives an objective, independent from subjective opinion of the examiner, assessment of actions when seamen make simulator exercises.
Use of modern technologies and methods developed by the Makarov Training Centre instructors allows to carry out complex knowledge and skills assessment of seafarers considering their psychological features.
